Factoid Bad links--hyperlinks that do nothing when clicked--are the scourge of any surfer.


Tip Test your site--and do it weekly, to ensure that all links work as promised. For all my current and past clients, I always review their sites on occasion. Because I'm familiar with the path least taken, I'll test those links to ensure a complete site -even if they've decided to maintain it themselves. Why? I dread seeing error pages flash before my very eyes -a major embarrassment to any proprietor and because I take pride in my clients' success.

Busy Women Choose the Internet [emarketer]
A report from Nielsen//NetRatings and Washingtonpost.com indicates that 60% of working women using the Internet at work feel there is not enough time in the day for personal activities and issues, compared to just 48% of their male counterparts.

Nonetheless, these women are voracious media consumers, especially when it comes to the Internet as 48% have increased their Internet usage over the past year and 27% say they are “not at all likely” to give up the Net in order to save time. It is therefore no surprise that 63% of these women told Nielsen and Washingtonpost.com they would “definitely” include the Internet in a marketing campaign targeted to their demographic segment.

[Our Take] Women are important. Period.

It's been noted that women handle 75 percent of the family finances and control roughly 80 percent of family purchasing decisions. Researchers also found that nearly half of all first-time Web buyers are women.

Once researchers ascertained that women are indeed the force behind Net shopping, they clustered the women into six "psychographic segments." However, one can't market to women in a broad blanket as they're not all alike. From homemakers, explorers and upwardly mobile women buy goods online more than any other group.

It's imperative to know each segment and their needs and also the implications of stereotyping women. Again the answers about women are complex, but overall, women want to know that the site cares about them. Safety and trustworthiness are of utmost importance."

Tom Peters defines brand as "Shorthand for distinction," and a corporate brand is merely one that ties the distinct qualities of a company to its products. This always includes the name of the firm as well as a number of the other attributes that the company has built up over the years. One of the best examples of a company that applies corporate branding is General Electric. The company uses the GE brand on everything it makes from aircraft engines to steam generators to home appliances and medical equipment. All of these things carry not only the GE brand, but also the distinct qualities and reputation that General Electric has gained over the years. Corporate branding can, however, be a risky strategy for many. Enron, Firestone, Coca-Cola and others have seen their corporate brands battered or destroyed by scandal, widely publicized product failures or simply a loss of focus on maintaining key brand attributes. If you are considering corporate branding for your products or services, it important to have a long term strategy in place that focuses on the relationship between your corporate attributes and product attributes and how, as these change over time, they need to be intimately linked.
